This is Gdansk from the top of the St. Mary's church tower, a 400-step climb. When we got to the top we discovered it was raining, but still a nice view.
Like many churches in north Poland, St. Mary's has gone back and forth from being Protestant (when the Prussians or Germans ruled) to Catholic (when the Poles ruled.) The church is huge. It was almost completely destroyed in WWII, as was much of Gdansk, but was rebuilt.
There's a busy amber trade in Gdansk.
